Tempered glass does not break into sharp shards when broken. It crumbles into tiny rounded edge pieces to prevent injury. Tempered glass is often reffered to as safety glass. This type of glass is also heat resistant. It is used in such items as coffee pots and ovens. Tempered glass is good if you live in an area with frequent storms, but is not storm proof. This glass makes an excellent exterior door , or can be used for a safe sturdy interior door. Any of the other glass types listed here can be tempered.
