Here is an example of some of our 15 Lite Cherry French Doors, as seen in a yacht from Skipperliner.Com

Welcome to our newly redesigned FrenchDoors site. We hope you enjoy it and find it easy to use and informative.

If you have any questions or comments, please let us know. Most all articles and blog posts are comment enabled, so feel free to utilize these features…we look forward to hearing from you.

We will start by clearing up the misconception that french doors are automatically double (two) doors prehung on one door jamb (frame). A French door is simply a door with glass extending its full length. French doors can be prehung as a single or double door unit, or combined with the proper track and hardware, utilized as bifold, bypass, or pocket doors.

What is A French Door ?

French doors appear to have originated in France at the latter end of the Renaissance period of art and architecture, with a growth of popularity rising in France and Germany.

A French door is also known as a French window, and refers to a door that has multiple windows set into it, the full length of the door. These windows are also known as “lites”, and are rather popular for allowing maximum light to enter and permeate a home.

Traditionally, French doors are constructed with multiple individual
sections of glass and mullions. Mullions are the dividing bars between window lites or panels. French Doors are also known as true divided lite French doors, or TDL. A true divided lite means that each pane (lite) of glass used in constructing your door is built in separately. This means that if you order a ten lite door it will be built with ten separate lites inserted independently into
their own mullions. Some manufacturers use a single lite covering the entire length of the door and then add a cheap snap in or glue on ornamental grid trying to pass it off as a true divided lite door.

French doors can also be prehung as a single or double door unit,
or combined with the proper track and hardware, utilized
as bifold, bypass, or pocket doors.

Why French Doors?

French doors not only look wonderful in all rooms, but add value to your home. With our custom doors you are giving your home character that makes it distinctly yours. French doors allow you the option of closing off a room from the rest of the house, but still allow you to have extra light coming into a room. This a compromise between the open floor plans that people want, and the need for quiet areas in the home.

Varieties of French Door

French patio doors, French interior doors, French exterior doors,
double-folding French doors, are just some of the available styles on todays market. French patio doors can be hinged, in a out-swing or in-swing variation. The Interior French Doors can also have the same capabilities, and are available in a wide variety of colors and sizes. Interior French doors may be solid or hollow core, while exterior French doors are typically heavy and
weather-tight for added protection against the elements.

Just to make things a little clearer a French door can be (1) single door or a pair of doors all having some sort of glass panels.

All French doors can be a regular or folding door, and most interior French doors can be locked in place with ball catches, bolts or posts. French doors can be constructed with simple glass panels or a wide variety of decorative glass. They can be installed in pairs, so either one or both may be open. The best quality French doors are normally doors installed with divided lights that are beveled, thermal pane, or frosted.

* French doors with wood mullions –

These are the same traditional french doors manufactured with true divided lite design, which means that a 15-lite has 15 separate pieces of glass.

· French doors with beveled glass –

These doors are the Same traditional design as above, except in tempered beveled glass, which adds a more elegant look. When
These are done in our standard stock glass sizes, the cost is not much more than the standard flat glass above.

          ·
French doors with grooved glass -

This is a new line that we Have just started manufacturing with glass that is actually one piece, but the beveled design is cut into the surface of the glass. We have 10-lite, 15-lite, and our new double Prairie design.

These are the New matching bifolds to our beveled glass doors. These Are being used more and more for room dividers, and add
That extra dimension to your home.
